Do NOT Trust Cat In The Hat..

A darkened school, scattered backpacks and a hostile Cat in the Hat give Fulton a simple horror-game objective: locate five colored keys before the pursuing character takes his remaining lives. The setup works because it requires almost no explanation, allowing the playthrough to move quickly into exploration, sudden blackouts and the threat of being caught. Fulton’s obvious discomfort with horror games also gives the otherwise basic premise some personality.

The early encounters with the Cat are easily the most effective moments. Fulton hears laughter before seeing the character, struggles to work out where the threat is coming from and gets caught quickly enough to establish that wandering carelessly has consequences. Crouching beneath furniture provides at least one defensive option, while the changing lighting and occasional jump scares create enough uncertainty to keep the first stretch tense.

Unfortunately, searching backpacks becomes overwhelmingly repetitive. Most contain nothing, and Fulton repeatedly returns to rooms and bags he has apparently already checked because he has difficulty keeping track of the school’s layout. That confusion initially contributes to the panic, but eventually it turns much of the playthrough into variations of opening another backpack, finding nothing and expressing frustration. Five keys is a modest objective on paper, yet the randomized or difficult-to-locate items make progress feel much slower.

The darkness creates a similar mixture of atmosphere and irritation. Entire rooms become almost impossible for Fulton to navigate, and several sequences leave him complaining that he cannot see what he is supposed to be searching. The eventual discovery that pressing F activates a flashlight is funny precisely because so much earlier frustration could have been avoided. Once he realizes the mechanic exists, exploration immediately becomes easier, but the delayed discovery also shows how little attention has been given to understanding the available controls.

A more serious disruption arrives when the Cat apparently stops pursuing him altogether. Fulton concludes that the game may have glitched after searching extensively without encountering the enemy or finding the remaining keys, forcing him to restart. Whether the problem is actually a glitch cannot be established from his experience alone, but the restart damages the momentum just as he has made substantial progress and turns the second attempt into another long search through familiar spaces.

That second run does improve the pacing temporarily. Fulton finds several keys much faster, uses them promptly after learning that dying can cost him a carried key, and encounters the Cat often enough for the chase mechanic to matter again. His energetic reactions suit the material, particularly when he narrowly escapes or realizes he has finally found another color. Even so, repeated calls to like and subscribe, along with a mid-game plush promotion, interrupt a playthrough already struggling to maintain forward momentum.

The ending is ultimately anticlimactic. After reaching the point where only the green key remains, Fulton searches the library and other areas, dies again and decides to stop rather than completing the escape. There is some genuine entertainment in watching a straightforward Roblox horror game repeatedly frustrate an excitable player, but the lack of completion leaves the central challenge unresolved. A tighter edit emphasizing the Cat encounters, key discoveries and funniest mistakes could have preserved the personality while removing much of the empty searching.

Pros

  • The dark school, intermittent lighting and approaching laughter establish an effective simple horror atmosphere.
  • Fulton’s nervous reactions give the playthrough energy and make several encounters genuinely amusing.
  • Discovering the flashlight and learning to use keys before dying provide entertaining moments of player realization.
  • The second attempt moves more purposefully once Fulton understands the mechanics and layout.

Cons

  • Searching large numbers of empty backpacks becomes highly repetitive.
  • Frequent backtracking and difficulty remembering previously searched rooms slow the playthrough considerably.
  • The apparent disappearance of the pursuing Cat forces a restart and breaks the momentum.
  • Promotional interruptions arrive during an already lengthy search sequence.
  • Ending without finding the final key leaves the game’s main objective unfinished.

Fulton’s expressive reactions and the game’s creepy lighting turn a very simple Roblox chase into some entertaining scares, but neither can sustain the prolonged backpack hunt. Repetition, a restart and the unresolved final key keep an energetic playthrough from delivering a satisfying payoff.
