A Surreal Crocodile Chant That Ends Before It Can Fully Develop

BLUE MEDUSA – CROCODILE. (Official Music Video)

A playful recitation about a crocodile polishing its tail and covering its scales with the waters of the Nile gives the song an immediately strange, storybook quality. The imagery is vivid despite the extremely small amount of lyrical material, moving from a shining tail and golden scales toward fish and threatening jaws. That contrast between whimsical language and predatory imagery gives the piece most of its personality.

The wording itself is deliberately—or at least effectively—peculiar. Phrases involving sins, spiritual glass and “dreadless smiling jaws” create a dreamlike sequence whose meaning is difficult to pin down. Rather than establishing a conventional narrative, the lyrics operate more like fragments of surreal poetry, leaving interpretation largely to the listener.

The repeated crocodile exclamation provides the clearest musical hook. After the more elaborate opening lines, reducing everything to an enthusiastic chant gives the piece a simple payoff and makes its central image memorable. It is also the closest the material comes to a recognizable chorus.

There is an appealing theatricality to the writing. Questions dominate the passage, lending it the rhythm of a strange riddle or nursery rhyme, while the final shouted refrain abruptly changes the energy. That structure creates a miniature progression even though there is almost no room for conventional verse-and-chorus development.

Brevity is also the main limitation. The crocodile concept introduces several potentially interesting images, but none has time to develop into a larger story, emotional idea or sustained lyrical theme. The result feels more like a compact musical vignette than a fully explored song.

As an official music video, the presentation cannot be meaningfully assessed beyond what the vocal and lyrical content communicates. There is no basis here for judging cinematography, editing, performance visuals or how effectively the imagery complements the song. On the available content alone, the distinctive language and eccentric tone make an impression, but the extreme minimalism limits how much substance there is to evaluate.

Pros

  • Vivid crocodile, Nile and golden-scale imagery creates an unusual storybook atmosphere.
  • The shift from elaborate questions to the repeated crocodile chant gives the short piece a memorable payoff.
  • Surreal phrasing establishes a distinctive personality without relying on a conventional narrative.

Cons

  • The extremely limited lyrical material leaves the central concept largely undeveloped.
  • Several phrases are so cryptic that the intended meaning is difficult to determine.
  • The music video's visual execution cannot be meaningfully evaluated from the available content.

The combination of nursery-rhyme imagery, surreal language and an emphatic crocodile refrain makes this an eccentric little musical vignette. Its oddness is memorable, but there simply is not enough developed material to give the concept much depth or progression.
