That contradiction gives the story an unusually effective hook: Gengar could demonstrate that he possessed the item, identify where he had picked it up, and even show that he was playing on Xbox, yet he could not explain the hidden conditions that made his experience reproducible. The presentation wisely treats that uncertainty as the central mystery rather than immediately revealing the solution.

Reconstructing the community’s progress also conveys just how elaborate the puzzle became. Synth Potato’s work connects the blood analyzer’s letters to RNA codons and “glitch,” then interprets three numerical clues as distances associated with the moon, sun and Alpha Centauri to determine how symbols correspond to the mansion safe. The explanation is dense but generally clear, and the visuals implied by the narration give each deduction a logical place in the chain. Importantly, the account also notes that IGN had published the same findings a day before Synth’s post, preventing an engaging community narrative from becoming an unsupported claim that Synth was unquestionably first.

The mystery becomes more interesting once Marie’s doll is identified through the game files as a required item. Gengar’s claim that he simply found it at the bottom of a staircase initially looks suspicious when other players cannot reproduce it, and the hostile reaction is understandable even if the personal attacks were not. His follow-up demonstration that he was playing on Xbox makes straightforward item hacking less plausible, but it does not by itself prove how the doll appeared. Maintaining that distinction keeps the story credible while allowing Gengar’s apparent confusion to remain part of the evidence rather than being treated as proof.

Cairo George’s later solution adds a useful complication because it establishes the steps while raising a separate argument over what counts as legitimately “solving” a game puzzle. The presentation says Cairo and a partner reverse-engineered the sequence from the game files and describes the resulting community backlash, rather than pretending that data mining and organic deduction are equivalent methods. A subsequent mystery Cairo shared turning out to be a mod-related bug further illustrates how quickly apparent clues can mislead a community working under intense scrutiny.

The eventual explanation for Gengar’s discovery is delightfully absurd. Players apparently needed to let corpses fall into a blood vat long enough to trigger a flag, allow enemies on the conveyor section to die through the grinder, drain the resulting blood, and flush toilets at least eight times. Gengar’s reported behavior provides plausible mundane reasons for accidentally satisfying those requirements: he became stuck long enough to meet the waiting condition, conserved ammunition by letting the grinder kill enemies, drained the pool as expected, and repeatedly experimented with the toilets. The Resident Evil 2 comparison involving repeatedly checking Wesker’s desk also gives his toilet experimentation some useful series context rather than presenting it as inexplicable behavior.

Where the account becomes less definitive is in deciding what “first” actually means. Gengar apparently completed the challenge first without understanding how, while the data miners reconstructed the hidden mechanics and other players solved substantial clue-based portions independently. Awarding Gengar the ultimate credit is explicitly framed as the narrator’s judgment, which is appropriate, but viewers could reasonably define “solved” as intentionally deciphering the mechanism rather than accidentally satisfying it. The discussion is strongest precisely because the evidence does not produce an entirely clean winner.

The claim that Requiem’s director intended the puzzle to last at least two weeks, only for it to fall in four days, provides a fitting final perspective on modern Easter-egg design. The presentation argues that increasingly accessible data mining makes it harder for developers to preserve mysteries long enough for communities to solve them organically, and this case illustrates that tension well. Some of the puzzle’s supposed clue connections remain disputed even after the mechanics are known, so the explanation cannot fully establish how Capcom expected players to infer every arbitrary action, but that unresolved question ultimately makes the story more interesting rather than undermining it.
