The most interesting thing about the Galaxy XCover 7 Pro is not that Samsung built a rugged phone with replaceable exterior parts, programmable buttons, charging contacts, and an SD card slot. It is that the company combined those features with a user-removable battery while still producing a device described as IP68 water-resistant. That makes the phone an effective demonstration that removable batteries and substantial water resistance can coexist, although the video stretches that observation into a broader accusation that consumers have been “lied to.” One successful design does not establish that removable batteries impose no engineering compromises on other phones, but it does challenge the idea that sealing a battery inside a device is the only route to strong water resistance.

The durability testing gives that argument more substance than nostalgia alone would provide. The glass display scratches at the expected levels in the test, while its recessed position within a rubbery plastic frame appears suited to the phone’s rugged purpose. More importantly, the device flexes during the structural test without cracking or catastrophically failing, and the damaged fingerprint reader continues functioning. The video also notes unusually inexpensive replacement prices for the screen and rear panel, making repairability relevant beyond the removable battery. Calling the LCD display’s behavior under heat the “real reason” for the inexpensive replacement screen is more confident than the evidence supports, however; identifying the panel technology does not by itself establish Samsung’s replacement-part pricing rationale.

The industrial design is examined with a useful eye toward the XCover’s intended environment. Programmable hardware buttons, cellular walkie-talkie functionality, charging contacts intended for fleet docks, and replaceable exterior pieces all make more sense for organizational deployments than they would on a conventional flagship. The suggestion that Samsung could have printed rulers, conversions, or other practical reference markings onto the removable back panel is clever, though more of a personal design proposal than a genuine deficiency. The larger point lands: this is a specialized device, and evaluating it solely by mainstream flagship priorities would miss much of what Samsung appears to be selling.

Disassembly reveals a more complicated repair story. The battery pops out easily, but deeper access requires removing the glued display before reaching screws, ribbon connectors, the metal midplate, and internal boards. The teardown does a good job showing that “removable battery” and “easy to completely repair” are not synonymous. At the same time, the internal construction helps explain why the phone survives the earlier bending test: the substantial midplate provides an obvious structural element, while the integrated copper heat pipe gives the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 a dedicated path for moving heat. The teardown is particularly effective because it connects internal design choices to observations already made during the durability test.

Where the evaluation becomes less convincing is in treating mainstream camera expectations as a decisive judgment against a work-oriented phone. The video finds an 8-megapixel ultrawide, 50-megapixel main camera, and 13-megapixel front camera, with no optical image stabilization on the rear cameras. Those specifications are legitimate drawbacks for buyers prioritizing photography, just as 15W charging is notably modest for a $600 device. But concluding from small sensors and absent OIS that the phone is effectively incapable of capturing ordinary moments goes beyond what the teardown establishes. No comparative photo or video results are presented to demonstrate how severe the practical limitations actually are.

The final assessment is nevertheless coherent because the video consistently returns to value and intended audience. A roughly $600 phone with an LCD, slow charging, modest camera hardware, and unimpressive speaker performance is difficult to recommend as a conventional personal handset when many of its distinguishing features are aimed at fleets, construction sites, and corporate deployments. Conversely, replaceable batteries, low-cost replacement parts, physical programmable controls, an SD card slot, rugged construction, and fleet charging capabilities may matter far more in those environments than premium cameras or rapid charging. The video’s best insight is therefore not that Samsung secretly built a better kind of smartphone, but that the company still builds a markedly different kind when business requirements reward durability and serviceability.

Some conclusions are deliberately exaggerated for entertainment, particularly the claims about Samsung “lying,” the camera’s usefulness, and the presumed reason Samsung rarely discusses the model. Those punchlines make the episode memorable, but the physical evidence is strongest when allowed to speak for itself: this phone demonstrates a viable combination of water resistance, ruggedness, inexpensive replaceable components, and a battery that can be removed in seconds.
