Samsung’s extremely thin folding hardware produces the central contradiction of this durability test: the Fold 8 Ultra withstands an aggressive backward bend remarkably well on the first attempt, yet its delicate inner display eventually fails during a second round. That combination makes the demonstration more informative than a simple pass-or-fail torture test. The frame and hinge appear impressively resistant to catastrophic deformation under the conditions shown, while the folding display remains an obvious vulnerability on a phone presented here as costing $2,099.

The screen tests establish that vulnerability early. The exterior display resists scratching substantially better than the soft inner surface, which the presenter demonstrates can be marked with very little force. Samsung’s stated precautions against pressing hard on the folding screen, trapping objects inside the phone or removing its protective film reinforce how carefully that display needs to be treated. The dust test adds a more encouraging result: although contamination produces noticeable grinding in the hinge, the phone remains functional afterward. These are deliberately extreme demonstrations rather than measurements of normal ownership, but together they provide an effective physical illustration of where the design appears robust and where it remains fragile.

The teardown becomes particularly valuable once the damaged inner display is removed. Samsung’s flexible titanium support structure beneath the crease is shown directly, and the presenter compares it with structures used in previous Fold generations rather than accepting its presentation as something entirely unprecedented. The Fold 8 Ultra also uses four hinge modules compared with three in the shorter Fold 8, and physically comparing components reveals that the two models’ hinges are similar in design but different enough in width not to be interchangeable. That direct comparison gives the discussion of Samsung’s engineering considerably more substance than specifications alone would provide.

His conclusion that this leaves the processor unusually unsupported is an interpretation based on the visible construction and material comparisons he provides; the teardown does not include sustained performance or temperature testing that would establish how much this arrangement actually affects real-world operation.

Presentation is strongest when the destructive testing naturally leads into disassembly. Damage to the inner screen creates a reason to investigate what sits underneath it, and the teardown then progresses logically from displays and batteries through the motherboard and finally into the hinge itself. Close physical comparisons between the regular Fold 8 and Ultra components make otherwise obscure engineering differences understandable. The frequent jokes keep a long teardown personable, although some tangents and repeated promotional material interrupt the technical momentum.

A few claims also extend beyond what the demonstrations establish. References to an upcoming Apple foldable rely explicitly on rumors, while the assertion about 2026 being the hottest year since humans have existed is introduced without supporting evidence and is unnecessary to the burn test itself. The sponsor segment is clearly separated in purpose but arrives immediately after the costly screen failure and substantially pauses the teardown. Even with those distractions, the combination of durability abuse, component-level inspection and comparison with another Fold model makes this a detailed look at how Samsung achieved such a thin folding device—and at the compromises that remain hidden beneath that impressive construction.
