Austin’s construction is easily the comedic centerpiece. Rather than extracting the Dell motherboard and building around it sensibly, he cuts the OptiPlex chassis for a riser cable, powers the GPU from a second PSU activated with a jumper, mounts hardware with unconventional solutions, and stuffs the resulting machine inside another case. The video repeatedly warns viewers not to copy the power arrangement, while the others joke about fire hazards, insurance, and the load-bearing fan supporting part of the system. It is deliberately ridiculous engineering designed partly for spectacle and thumbnail appeal, but there is genuine ingenuity in making incompatible hardware cooperate well enough to participate.

Ken’s build is far less chaotic and consequently more useful as an example of what upgrading an inexpensive prebuilt might resemble. He retains the Ryzen 7, 16 GB of memory, SSD, and 500-watt power supply, transfers everything into a ventilated case, replaces the small stock CPU cooler, and installs the RTX 5060. Even this process has some tension when the system initially fails to boot, only for the problem to turn out to be a front-panel connector accidentally pulled from its header. Compared with Austin’s contraption, the finished result looks restrained and practical, although that very competence works against the deliberately scrappy theme when the judging begins.

The performance test provides the clearest objective comparison. Running the same Forza Horizon 6 benchmark at medium settings, Austin’s old Core i5 system manages 45 FPS while suffering visible problems with assets and buildings appearing incorrectly, whereas Ken’s machine reaches 78 FPS despite its CPU running near full utilization. That result demonstrates the limitation of simply attaching a modern GPU to a 2013-era platform: Austin’s RX 7600 gives the OptiPlex capabilities far beyond its original design, but the surrounding hardware prevents it from competing with Ken’s more balanced system. The benchmark is useful precisely because it allows the joke build to fail in measurable ways instead of pretending creativity automatically produces good performance.

The subsequent Counter-Strike 2 match shifts the competition from hardware performance to player performance. Because Ken wins the benchmark, he chooses the game, and the contest becomes an energetic exchange of kills, camping, jokes, and shifting scores before Ken ultimately wins with the higher total. It is entertaining, particularly as Austin briefly builds momentum with multiple kills, but it says little about which PC is better beyond showing that both can run the game. The competitive gameplay works as variety for the episode rather than meaningful hardware evaluation.

The final judging embraces the arbitrary nature of the whole challenge. Matt considers aesthetics, performance, ingenuity, and adherence to the junkyard theme, while bonus points for staying under the original PC budget ultimately give Austin a narrow 10-to-9 victory despite Ken having the faster and more conventional computer. Even the participants question the validity of the result, which keeps the ending appropriately playful rather than pretending the scoring identifies an objectively superior gaming PC. As a buying guide, the episode would be difficult to recommend because the rules change, prices depend heavily on open-box and clearance deals, and Austin’s construction is intentionally impractical. As a hardware comedy challenge, however, those same qualities produce most of the fun.
