Elsewhere, however, dramatic stories about prisoners, guards, deaths and punishments are presented with much less sourcing, so their historical reliability cannot be established from what is shown.
The investigation works best when the enormous building itself is allowed to generate tension. Juicy’s solo exploration of the under-18 wing is particularly effective because repeated footsteps, whispers and apparent movement gradually leave him visibly rattled without requiring elaborate theatrics. Similar moments occur in the clinic and women’s and children’s areas, where the group reports voices, crying, bangs and equipment responses. These incidents are genuinely eerie as presented, but none establishes a supernatural cause; ambiguous acoustics, environmental changes, equipment behavior and ordinary noises remain plausible possibilities.
To the group’s credit, skepticism occasionally becomes part of the investigation rather than an afterthought. They openly describe some events as possible coincidences, recognize that temperature can affect equipment, identify distant moaning as a train, question whether apparent movement could be caused by lighting, and later conduct an acoustic test to determine whether voices from another area could explain a striking “hello.” That recreation fails to match what they remember hearing, which leaves the incident unresolved rather than proving the proposed paranormal explanation. The same restraint appears when a Polaroid seems to contain figures in the chapel: some apparent shapes are quickly recognized as chairs, while another dark area remains unidentified.
The equipment-heavy sections are less convincing as evidence. The relentless horse jokes surrounding James Mason, insults directed at alleged violent offenders, wheelchair gags and crude banter keep an extremely long overnight investigation energetic and recognizably informal. At the same time, the comedy can overwhelm the history, particularly when accounts involving mental illness, disabled prisoners, abused children, murder and brutal confinement are followed immediately by sexual jokes or mockery. The basement story about a reportedly neurodivergent prisoner being isolated and whipped is disturbing enough on its own and would benefit from clearer historical substantiation and a more consistently measured tone.
The later basement and cell-block sequences provide the night’s strongest sustained stretch because the group becomes increasingly interested in locating the source of noises rather than simply celebrating every anomaly. Knocks, apparent whispers, clanging, footsteps and a voice resembling Josh lead them to compare locations, question whether teammates could have produced the sounds and physically recreate some of the conditions. Their eventual discovery that similar clanking can be heard in another building appropriately raises an ordinary external-source hypothesis. Declaring the night the group’s most active investigation is understandable as a description of their experience, but the footage supports a collection of unexplained incidents rather than a demonstrated haunting.
